SPORT: Andre Villas-Boas leaves Spurs by mutual consent

Villas-Boas gets the boot (©GettyImages)Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Andre Villas-Boas has left the club this afternoon by mutual consent.
Villas-Boas has lost his job with Spurs still reeling from a 5-0 home defeat at Liverpool, which leaves them seventh in the Premier League and five points off a Champions League qualifying spot.

With the pressure mounting following defeats to Manchester City, Arsenal and West Ham United earlier in the campaign Spurs have decided the time is right for a change in leadership.

A short official statement on the club's website confirmed the former Chelsea manager's departure, reading: "The Club can announce that agreement has been reached with Head Coach, Andre Villas-Boas, for the termination of his services.
"The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties. We wish Andre well for the future.
"We shall make a further announcement in due course."
Villas-Boas lasted a little over 18 months in the Spurs hotseat, failing to meet the requirements of chairman Daniel Levy, who is desperate to see the club become a regular fixture in the Champions League.
Spurs are yet to produce official confirmation of who will be caretaker boss while the search for a new head coach begins, with a Capital One Cup quarter-final against West Ham United looming large on Wednesday night.
