There's
no event on Earth quite like 'The Dinah', an annual, five-day
mega-festival for girls who like girls, with almost no men in sight, and
all the booze, sun and - yes - debauchery that a woman could want and
it's no doubt the world's biggest all-female festival.
As the photos from this year's event - taken by LA Weekly -
show, the 26-year-old mega-party is going stronger than ever, regularly
attracting 20,000 women looking to party till they drop.
This
year's bash, which ran from March 30-April 3 in its traditional home of
Palm Springs, Florida, saw celeb guests in attendance, including Lady
Gaga, Samantha Ronson and Orange is the New Black star Lea DeLaria.
The official name of the
festival - Club Skirts Dinah Shore Weekend - comes from the Dinah Shore
golf tournament, now known as the ANA Inspiration, one of the 'big
five' of women's golf.
Shore,
its founder, who died in 1994 aged 77, wasn't a lesbian, The Guardian
noted, but the tournament drew a heavy lesbian contingent that increased
in number year after year.
The
event is still held in conjunction with the ANA Inspiration (until
recently known as the Kraft Nabisco Championship), but has really taken
on a life of its own, with many women coming for the sun, camaraderie, a
chance to be themselves among like-minded women - and a touch of
debauchery too.
'Flashing is normal,' one partygoer told The Guardian. 'I get flashed at a lot.'
'Random
girls pulling you into their hotel rooms are also pretty standard,' the
paper added. 'One year, there was a minor earthquake in Palm Springs.
Debbie, a Dinah veteran who has attended every event since 1991, recalls
that half the water splashed out of the pool. Most of the girls were
too drunk to realize or care.'
As the
show has grown in size, it's begun to attract big-name sponsors and
big-name stars - both arguably signs that the show is doing something
right.
This
year's performers included comedian and jazz musician Lea DeLaria -
known as prison inmate 'Big Boo' in hit Netflix show Orange is the New
Black - who put on 'an evening of comedy and music.'
Another
of the show's stars, Taryn Manning, who plays 'Pennsatucky' the former
evangelical Christian and newly minted best friend of Big Boo, also
performed a DJ set.
There
was also a DJ set from former Lindsay Lohan squeeze Samantha Ronson and a
live performance by Grammy-nominated headline act Ellie King.
Lady
Gaga was also in the crowd, there to watch her friend Katherine Moennig -
aka Shane from lesbian drama The L Word - play tunes. She was caught
rocking out with Ronson.
Previous guests have included Katy Perry and The Pussycat Dolls.

Men are so important in the world. That is why God created man first before creating woman as his assistance. Good content from you brother.
