SPORT: Premier League at Christmas

This season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in many, many years. After Luis Suarez inspired Liverpool took down Cardiff City 3-1, they now top the table heading into Christmas ahead of Arsenal on goal difference.
Closely behind at 35 points are the Citizens. Manchester City had a lacklustre start, but began scoring goals for fun to retain their title credentials and have the best goal difference in the league with +31.
A point back from Manchester City are Chelsea and Everton. Again, goal difference is what separates the two, but only with one goal between them (Chelsea with +14, Everton with +13).

Newcastle have surprised a few people, and have joined the race for Champions League or Europa League football. However they stand sixth with 30 points, only ahead of what is now Tim Sherwood's Spurs by goal difference.
Spurs have also surprised this season, but not in the way they would have liked. After using the money earned from Gareth Bale's departure to Real Madrid, Tottenham spent upwards of £100 million in the transfer window during the summer on some new players, including Roberto Soldado, Eric Lamela and Paulinho.
Perhaps one of the biggest talking points of this campaign so far is the fall of Manchester United. After winning the Premier League quite easily last season, David Moyes' squad has failed to impress, and with 28 points, United sit at eighth in the Premier League table.
Southampton had a very impressive start, but have begun to fall apart. The Saints were in the top for many of the opening few weeks but, after some recent disappointments, they now stand at ninth in the table.
Rounding out the top 10 is Stoke City with 21 points. Ahead of 11th placed Swansea City and newly promoted Hull City by a single point.
Despite a spectacular season opener from Aston Villa, they now sit at 13th place, with only 19 points. Alongside them with the same number of points are Norwich City.
Cardiff have produced some surprising performances, including beating Manchester City, and holding United to a 2-2 draw. However their inconsistency leaves them at 15th place with 17 points.
West Brom currently stand three points from the relegation zone, and only ahead of West Ham by a point. Crystal Palace, Fulham and Sunderland round out that relegation zone, with only three points between them.
The Premier League has always been considered one of the best leagues in the world for its entertainment, and the competitiveness that it brings. Leagues such as the Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and La Liga seem to be dominated by only a few teams, however this cannot be said about the Premier League with only two points separating the top five teams heading into Christmas.
Whether you are a die hard fan or just a neutral, this Premier League campaign will get you off your seats, and the standings themselves are something to marvel at on their own.
