The Met Office has issued a number of snow and flood warnings as Britain faces an 'erratic' storm that will force temperatures down to -15C.
Around 5cm of snow is projected to fall in parts of the country while wintry showers will lead to dangerous travel conditions.
The mercury is set to drop to - 15C overnight in parts of Scotland while temperatures will hit lows of -10C in the north and -6C in the south.
And forecasters have issued yellow warnings for snow and ice in the north of England and Scotland .
Widespread frost and gale force winds could also batter the country as the depression moves in over the next two days.
Snow showers will hit the south east of the country on Monday and on Tuesday.
While the north west of the UK could see wintry showers that will making driving tough.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "A front over central and southeast Scotland will move slowly and erratically southwards into the far north of England.
"This will bring outbreaks of mainly rain and sleet over eastern coastal areas and to low levels, but some snow to low levels inland and heavy snow likely across higher ground at times."
Around 70 flood warnings and severe weather alerts have been issued including the River Thames and River Severn.
"Please be aware of difficult travelling conditions and the risk of some transport disruption due to both snow and icy surfaces," the Met Office spokesman added.

"A more persistent area of rain, sleet and snow over southern parts of Scotland and parts of northern England will clear from the north during Saturday evening, but leaving behind some sleet and snow showers in places and an increasing risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.
"Meanwhile, a cold northeasterly flow will become established across much of Scotland with sleet and snow showers affecting areas exposed to the northeast.
"During Sunday morning, these showers will become more frequent over the far north of Scotland and the Northern Isles."
